Tal como les prometí la semana pasada, hoy traduzco el texto para quienes no dominan el inglés.

Se trata de un párrafo más del libro «Eating dirt» de Charlotte Gill, al que considero excelente.

La traducción del original aparecido el sábado pasado es la siguiente:

La plantas poseen una magia de la que nosotros carecemos. Ellas regeneran materia a partir del aire y de la luz, transforman fotones en alimento y en tejido vivo que respira. …

…El reino vegetal es después de todo la razón por la cual nosotros comemos y respiramos. El petróleo, también es vegetación «dinosauria», siglos de luz solar atrapada profundamente en las láminas del Carbonifero , como mariposas preservadas entre las páginas de un libro. Y así nosotros les debemos hasta nuestros autos a las junglas de la antigüedad.

Yo amo estos textos, y sin embargo debo aclarar que algunas cosas no son exactamente como se describen más arriba. El petróleo no es producido sólo por las plantas sino también por antiguos animales, principalmente microorganismo; y no se generó solamente durante el Carbónico o Carbonífero.

Today I share the following:

Plants possess a magic we lack. They spin matter out of air and light, photons into food and into living, breathing tissue…

…Kingdom Plantae, after all is the reason we eat and breathe. Petroleum, too, is dinosaur vegetation, centuries of sunlight trapped deep in the earth’s Carboniferous wafers like butterflies preserved between the pages of a book. And so, we even owe our cars to the jungles of antiquity.

I love these texts, nevertheless I must say that some things are not just as described above. Petroleum is not only produced by plants, but also by ancient animals, mainly microorganisms; and Carboniferous is not the only era when it was generated.
